You need to remember that even though this author died in 1893 he had written for many years serialised stories for the Boy‘s Own Paper. After his death BOP published many of these stories in book form. So we need not imagine these books to have been written by the author’s ghost, even though we can see the date of a first publication long after the year of the author’s death.
