Please note that where we have indicated in an author’s bibligraphy that we are looking for a particular book by that author, this does not mean more than that we are looking at our leisure for a low-priced copy on eBay or through Abebooks, or the equivalent. There is no way we would pay hundreds for a rare book. This website is entirely funded from a meagre pension, and is an act of philanthropy. We are also very pleased if someone offers to scan a book in for us, or to lend us a copy for the very short time it takes to scan a book. We will only purchase a book from a UK address. All pages and illustrations to be present. Not an abridged version. £7 to £10 for a book in useable condition, and good enough for resale later; £3 for a book in poor condition with no resale value.
We are moving the books in this collection to the Gutenberg collection, where they each appear as a full book html file, and as a simple whole book file without markup. The latter format is especially useful for making audiobooks. We are also placing PDFs of the books into the Internet Archive, along with two files very similar to the ones we have put into the Gutenberg collection. Most of the books have also been placed on the Mobipocket Bookshelf, whence they can be downloaded to be read on your mobile phone or other handheld device. Thus the only books in the Athelstane website will eventually be the ones we are still preparing for the above move.
We have now published some 470 e-books through this website.
